Hi! Thanks for the question.

Before providing a rating, please ask for clarification if you will
need further assistance in the answers I have provided below.

I will try to answer your question in a point-by-point manner.

-------------------
1. What is change management?

Definition ? ?Change management is the process of developing a planned
approach to change in an organization. Typically the objective is
maximize the collective efforts of all people involved in the change.?

?Change management can be either reactive, in which case management is
responding to changes in the macroenvironment (that is, the source of
the change is external), or proactive, in which case management is
initiating the change in order to achieve a desired goal (that is, the
source of the change is internal). Change management can be conducted
on a continuous basis, on a regular schedule (such as an annual
review), or when deemed necessary on a program-by-program basis.?

Another way to define change management is to take into consideration
its different elements mainly the task, professional and knowledge
aspects.

a. Task Aspect - ?One meaning of ?managing change? refers to the
making of changes in a planned and managed or systematic fashion. The
aim is to more effectively implement new methods and systems in an
ongoing organization. The changes to be managed lie within and are
controlled by the organization.?

b. Professional Practice ? ?There are dozens, if not hundreds, of
independent consultants who will quickly and proudly proclaim that
they are engaged in planned change, that they are change agents??

?Some of these change management experts claim to help clients manage
the changes they face ? the changes happening to them. Others claim to
help clients make changes. Still others offer to help by taking on the
task of managing changes that must be made.?

c. Knowledge - ?The content or subject matter of change management is
drawn from psychology, sociology, business administration, economics,
industrial engineering, systems engineering and the study of human and
organizational behavior. For many practitioners, these component
bodies of knowledge are linked and integrated by a set of concepts and
principles known as General Systems Theory (GST).?

2. How does Changed management help a business and what if the
business does not change?

?While management design and implement strategies that deliver
improvement in performance, they often neglect one key area for
success. ?Managing the change? Change management is important because
understanding this change and its effect on the organization and its
people minimizes disruptive aspects and enhances positive
opportunities in the change process. These opportunities can include
containing costs, realigning resources and respond more quickly to
customer demands.?

?Change Management benefits?
http://www.unixl.com/dir/business_and_economy/human_resources/change_management/

If the business does not change (and there is a need for one) then it
will have a difficult time responding to the shifts in the business
world. If it not adaptable to change the organization may not be able
to survive and foresee inevitable problems from more innovative
competitors.

?Many challenges face organizations today such as: sharp economic
swings, new competitive pressures, globalization of the market place,
complete reshaping of the business world, new technologies, social
cultural shifts, and regulatory changes. Organizations must realize
that change is inevitable for future survival.?

3. What are some different ways to change management so that
management is more productive?

Our next link provides more basic strategies to change management.

?Successful change must involve top management, including the board
and chief executive. Usually there's a champion who initially
instigates the change by being visionary, persuasive and consistent. A
change agent role is usually responsible to translate the vision to a
realistic plan and carry out the plan. Change is usually best carried
out as a team-wide effort. Communications about the change should be
frequent and with all organization members. To sustain change, the
structures of the organization itself should be modified, including
strategic plans, policies and procedures. This change in the
structures of the organization typically involves an unfreezing,
change and re-freezing process.?
