In my opinion, this is a multi-level marketing scam. Here's a description of the product: "The Smog Buster is a small quarter sized device you put on the outside and near the bottom of your fuel tank. Tape it on, epoxy it on; just get it on there. Although not a magnet in itself, it projects a sound frequency field altering the ordinance of the molecular structure of each fuel type it is in contact with. They claim that the chip has a sound energy field that they call a hologram that extends 9 inches into the fuel tank. Metal or plastic does not matter as the hologram antenna pattern sent out into the fuel tank will penetrate steel tanks ONE INCH THICK with ease--as they (OCN) have already discovered!!!! What it does is neutralize 32 toxins and up to 79 different harmful components in gasoline or diesel fuel." http://www.detailshere.com/smogbuster.htm This is malarkey. The only process going on here is that your money is being transformed into snake oil. |

I only add my voice to Ms Pink -- snake oil. If one were to employ every petrol (gas) saving device on the market, your tank would generate fuel. Many drivers swear that they do work, but in controlled conditions virtually all of them have found to be completely ineffectual. I really do not know how manufacturers avoid prosecution from flagrant abuse of ?sale of goods? (UK) or the US equivalent. Best |

I am the biggest skeptic there is until my husband installed the Smog Buster on my 2003 Focus. After 10 minutes of the installation I could not smell anything coming out of the exhaust but clean air, right before the installation there were fumes and I could not get 10 inches without smelling the fumes, afterward I got as close as I could to the exhaust and smelled nothing, not only that my car now drives better than ever. My husband has been in MLM for years and have always critized him for it, not with the Smog Buster it is the greatest product out there. Try one, there is a money back guarantee! You won't be disappointed. www.bettercarmileage.com |

guzzi-ga I am with you. clearersky-ga and pink appear to be peddling the merchandise and salesman will SELL anyway they can. The only true solution to improve the air is to car pool and create safer affordable cars that do not pollute, so until the electric cars stop being of fashion and become a standard all we can do is car pool, ride our bikes, walk and hope for the best concering transportation that is.. Being more aware of the other ways to reduce smog is a great idea also. Anyway if you ask me these salesman are just.... blowing smoke, lol Thanks, Crissy |

The device is real and does have some significant effects on modern fuels, but there is currently an achilles heel most should know about before they entice their friends and neighbors into this. If you are interested, you need to get direct answers on the product failure rate before you get involved. ...You might find a bit more risk in it than most ads imply. |

I was talked into buying one of these disc back in September by a friend that I have great faith in, and had past business dealings. I took it to my 58 year old neighbor and we installed it on his company Chevy pickup 2004. He has to keep records for his company on gas mileage and such, and he drives over 150 miles to and from work on a daily basis not including weekends. Oh! by the way he is the head parts manager of over twenty five years, with a Tracker Trailer Dealership Company that has been in business since 1945, and they do from 1/2 million to a million a month just in parts to truckers of all variety's. After a month and a half of testing including emission test. NOTHING. It took me over two months to get a response from the home company to get my refunds and to get them to stop taking out monthly withdrawals and cancel my membership. I had to threaten my bank with closing all of my accounts before they finally said would I want them to call this company and put me in contact with them. Well I said if you can do that? You are doing something I can not and have not been able to do and I could not believe that they actually got me in contact with a real live person. of which I was not able to do by email, fax,or phone). Even tried getting my friend and his up line involved. I am finally getting my money back for two of the three disc. I have sent back two and still have one to see if the fairy dust turns straw into gold. For me, it has not worked. My friend says his has shown some improvement to one of his vehicles. I still think he believes it has, but I am not sure. It is my opinion that this is not a good product. No one twisted my arm to try this, I wanted to see for myself. I take the loss of the original disc as my loss. BUT...it is my opinion that this will not be a real producer after talking to some of the people involved that have had no success. It may very well help with emissions, but it is projected as a fuel saver and performance enhancer, even though it was developed as a smog buster only. I hope it works for all who are involved, because it would be great for everyone to have one on his or her auto. I just wonder now why the inventor did not patent this and sell it wide open to the world and make all the money, instead of a pyramid type marking deal out of calf and probably some ones home. Well that's for those in charge to explain!! For my money I'm going fishing and use a battery and a trolling motor.. Good Luck and be very careful with this product, dot your eyes and cross your tees...and remember to say to yourself over and over again...I believe in fairies, I believe in fairies, I do, I do, I do. Oh heck forget it, that didn't work for me either...Have a great Christmas.. |

My firm has done some extensive investigations on the smog-buster fuel disk, we have learned that it does have significant effects on the exhaust from both gas & Diesel engines. As for the effects on fuel effeciency this is stictly a side effect if seen at all. We have interviewed several users of the fuel disk and those with older vehicles and high mileage vehicles seem to see the biggest impact on fuel mileage. Several users have commented that they previously used premium fuel but with the fuel disk they have been able to switch to regular and maintaing the premium performance levels. Our experts have told us that the cars onboard computers are re-adjusting the fuel mix once they sense a change in the burn - there-by negating the fuel savings benefits on many vehicles once the disk has been in place a few hundred miles. Seems to be an oops that was not taken into account when the product was initially tested. Product has validity for air quality and emmissions applications but it seems a bit pricy - obviously the MLM structure has driven the price up. We did find one online dealer selling he product for $199 as an introductory offer gofueldoctor.com. |

I didn't believe it either, but most new breakthroughs are met with mockery first, remember Louis Pasteur? Don't know about gas mileage yet, but it turned my exhaust into sweet smelling steam on my 10 yr. old Pathfinder in about 10-15 minutes. If your garage attaches to your house, you could reduce the toxins coming in from there over the yrs. Can you say "cancer"? I'm interested in what tech guy77 says. Can you elaborate on the failure rate & other shortcomings? Thanks. |

The failure rate is being attributed to OCN. There are many of these discs running around out there that are of no value whatsoever. Do beware, it is hard to tell which work and which don't; and the costs associated with determining that are solely your responsibility. Bottom Line -- WAAYYY TOO EXPENSIVE TO HAVE ANY FAILURES!!! |

sure it works :) I'm as conservative as you can get and don't care about saving gas or the enviroment. if you want to waste your money on big SUV's or other gas hog cars go right ahead. the money you're spending in taxes on each gallon of gas pays for road upkeep for the rest of us, here is another report that prove this is a pure and simple scam. http://www.9news.com/acm_news.aspx?OSGNAME=KUSA&IKOBJECTID=6fb76f28-0abe-421a-012c-24646175643a&TEMPLATEID=0c76dce6-ac1f-02d8-0047-c589c01ca7bf its alomost as bad as the lotto which is just taxation for the mathematicly disinclined. Smogbuster is dead, but there is another device that is actually telling the truth about how both Smogbuster and itself achieve these results. The BioPro disc is found on the worldwide scam site given in the preceding post. It accurately identifies the activity of this phenomenon, as resonant frequency transfers into the fuel. The puveryors and originators of Smogbuster openly lied to the purchasing public and deserve the very worst our legal system has to offer them! For those of you who believed that holographic projection blabber, I've got some beautiful farm land down in the lower Mississippi delta you might be interested in! LOL |

Some of these Gas Saving devices do work, but the savings may be minimal. This website provides a good summary of the products that have been reviewed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): http://save-on-gas-prices.com/gassavingproducts.html |

This was posted by 9news, the CBS affiliate in Denver Colorado: I-Team: School of Mines researchers say "smogbuster" worthless gimmick written by: Ward Lucas (I-Team Reporter) Created: 1/13/2005 10:34 PM MST - Updated: 1/14/2005 9:36 AM MST 9NEWS I-Team reporter Ward Lucas exposes the truth about a worthless sticker being sold for $300 that is supposed to increase fuel efficiency. 9NEWS at 10 p.m. Jan. 14, 2005. GOLDEN - Watch out for the next 'money-saving' device for your car. It won't clean the air or improve your mileage, but it might clean out your checkbook. The M.P.T. Smogbuster Fuel Disc is the hottest new item being promoted across the country by the multi-level marketing folks. But a physics professor at the Colorado School of Mines says it's a waste of money. The device is a circular piece of plastic about the size of a quarter. It's promoter, Ocean City Network, is advising its network of salespeople to begin stocking up on the stickers. They retail for $299 a piece, but are sold at a discount to people who convince others to sell them to customers down line. Upper level members of the multi-level-marketing world have to buy a minimum of ten Smogbusters for about $1,400. The Smogbuster Fuel Disc is supposed to be taped or glued to the bottom of your car's gas tank. Its promoters claim it significantly increases gas mileage and improves air quality. They don't say why it works, or reveal the mystery behind it. Promoters claim it sends "holographic frequencies into the gas tank and changes the molecular structure of the gasoline." "It doesn't work," says Dr. Terry Parker, a professor at the Colorado School of Mines. Parker and graduate student John Dane of the chemistry department tested the device for our I-Team. "It's clear that it's just a sticker and nothing else," said Dane. The two scientists did a series of tests on the sticker to see if it contained any miraculous or unknown technology. Their conclusion was that it's just hokum. "There's some pretty snazzy marketing trying to relieve little old ladies from their money and not give them any value. I would expect that someone is really trying to just make a fast buck." Even members of the multi-level-marketing world are skeptical. A web search of the word "Smogbuster" will pull up a variety of sites where opinions of the new promotion run the gamut. Jim Fobair is apparently one of the executives behind Ocean City Network and the Smogbuster. In the 1990's he faced federal action for at least two promotions involving pyramid sales. One promotion that ended up in the federal courts was Omitrition, a diet supplement. A second promotional item was the so-called 'Laundry CD' or 'Laundry Disc'. It was a plastic disc filled with blue water that buyers were supposed to use in their washing machines instead of soap. Fobair made millions of dollars selling the laundry discs through multi-level-marketing chains. He ended up being fined about $50,000 by the Federal Trade Commission. more headlines > (Copyright by KUSA-TV, All Rights Reserved) |
