How do I determine who is the best, legitimate geneologist who uses
all modern resources, such as the web, to do legitimate geneological
work? I want to trace a name back into England into the 1600s and
before, and I have some good starter material.

Dear kilboj,

You could start with posting the information you already have here on
Google Answers. (you need not to open a new question, of course).
Though it is not possible to promise that we will be successful, we
Google Answers Researchers often work on genealogy questions, with
interesting results. See for example this question, where I traced
back one of our customer's ancestors to mid-16th century France:

OK, when I have the available information, I will post it. I agree
that Google Answers seems to be a good place to start. It may be a
few weeks, since I do not want to have the only copy of earlier
research mailed. Will the question remain open that long?

you can close it at any time and re-post another later.

Kilboj --

There are several excellent Google Answers researchers who do thorough
work on genealogy questions, including Herr Scriptor. However, be
aware that the BEST resources are not on the Internet -- they're often
on microfilm or old printed resources, including such things as church
records. As a result, your best choices for a genealogy researcher
MAY be someone who's in the location you're seeking the information.

Like Scriptor, I'd suggest that you give it a try with researchers
here. Genealogy research can be very time-consuming, making it
expensive. Which is why so many people handle it themselves . . .

Best regards,

Omnivorous-GA
