Question ID: 426314
Does joining the arm forces(i.e army, navy, marines etc) reduce the
medical liablity for doctors or nurses? By medical liability I mean
will the doctor or nurse be exempt from lawsuits or legal actions for
negligence. If this issue is a state mater, then related to Alabama
specifically.
I have heard this rumor is there any truth to it?

Dear Brign001:

I am a national physician recruiter and I know that if you apply for a
FEDERAL job with the Military, Publice Health Services and/or Indian
Health Services departments you are covered for medical malpractice
under the Federal Tort Claims Act. All state facilities reguire
indpendent medical malpractice claims coverage. I would search under
Federal Tort Claims Act to see what the specific wording is, i.e. I
don't know if you are exempt, or just protected by the government up
to a certain amount of liability. Hope this helps in a small way.
Good luck!
