I'm looking for a conference on "code generation" (computer
science/programming/development) sometime in mid-to-late 2002, I think
it is in Pittsburgh, PA

It must be the ACM SIGPLAN/SIGSOFT conference on Generative
Programming and Component Engineering (GPCE'02 ((formerly called
GCSE/SAIG'02)) in Pittsburgh, PA, October 6-8, 2002. That conference
is listed at this page:
