No, a hangover makes one less physically and mentally competent. It does not cause anxiety, it amplifies existing anxiety. I have done extensive research on this subject. |

frde - If it amplifies an exsisting anxiety, doesn't that mean it can make one? Also, if extensive research was done- Where is it? I would like to see it for myself to determine if your information is right. |

"anxiety" can also be a symptom of withdrawal from alcohol. |

I have worked in the psychiatry Addictions Unit in a large urban hospital. Most of the patients who quit any drug, especially depressants like alcohol have increased levels of anxiety during the withdrawal period. Alcohol acts as a central nervous system depressant. It is believed to work in a similar way to benzodiazepines (which are drugs that are used to treat anxiety). Therefore, withdrawal from the drug leads to increased anxiety. |
