what is a runtime library routine error as in the error message

Microsoft visual c+++ runtime Library routine error
c:\programfiles\internetexplorer\iexplore.exe

and how do I fix it?

It seems to slow IE and when it occurs, forces a closure of active window.

I am running Windows xp home, HP pavillion 1.86 ghz, 448 mgs ram, svc

Hi westenburg,

Do you have both Java (Sun) and MS VM installed? If so, try disabling
(unchecking) Java.

Otherwise, it's time to check for spyware. The MajorGeeks website has
an excellent tutorial on their website.

How to: Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

At the very least least, run the following:

1) Run HouseCall, a very thorough online virus scan:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

2) Adaware ("check for updates" before scanning
http://lavasoft.element5.com/default.shtml.en

3) SpyBot ("check for updates" before scanning
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Another good tutorial is here:
KRC Anti-Spyware Tutorial
http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Good luck. Please let me know how that goes.

Hi westenburg,

To enable/disable Java:

From the IE buttons at the top of the page:
Go to Tools / Internet Options
Select "Security" tab
Click "Custom Level" button
Scroll to the Java options and select (check) "Disable Java"
(uncheck to enable it again)
Restart IE

Hi again,

Sorry, I see that I had a typo in my first post. Here is what I meant:

Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (MS VM)
