Dear skippy4321-ga ,
This research is based on my own visit to Florence some years ago, and
by using the Google and Yohoo image search engines.

I don?t know if you?ve visited the Piazzale Michelangelo but this is a
map of Florence to help you understand its location.
Just below and to the right of the word ARNO in the blue river is
marked Piazzale Michelangelo.

Piazzale Michelangelo is a large terrace which has a commanding view
of the city. You access it by road or by steps/foot path and a number
of terraces which led up the hill to the piazzale itself. On one side
of the piazzale is the statue. Here is a general view of the statue
and piazzale.

On the other side of the terrace is a viewing area which has a
balustrade because of the drop on the other side.

This is a view from the other side. This gives an indication of the
drop. The further you go round the terrace gets higher. This picture
shows the steps leading up to the terrace and the balustrade.

Tourists often sit on top of the wall, they could easily topple back
and severely injury themselves or kill themselves (broken neck?). You
can see one in the red top in the last photograph and in this
photograph.

If one goes down to the lower level, there is another terrace which
offers a better view of the city. This has metal railings. You can see
it in these photographs. From memory, again there is a substantial
drop the other side of these railings.

I hope this answers your question. It is obviously difficult to say
from how high one would have to fall to risk the possibility of death,
but I think the photographs fairly indicate there is a potential
danger at the Piazzale Michelangelo. If it does not answer you
question, or the answer is unclear, then please ask for clarification
of this research before rating the answer. I shall respond to the
clarification request as soon as I receive it.
Thank you
