Hello mukki,

Your spelling was close. The term is periventricular leukomalacia
(PVL).

"Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) is damage and softening of the
white matter, the inner part of the brain that transmits information
between the nerve cells and the spinal cord, as well as from one part
of the brain to another.

- "periventricular" means around or near the ventricles, the spaces in
the brain containing the cerebrospinal fluid

- "leuko" means white

- "malacia" means softening"

This quote was obtained from the following site which also covers
concerns, causes, symptoms and treatments. The link is:

http://www.childrens.com/healthinfo/Display.cfm?ID=913&main=894

I also came across the following links which address PWL:

http://www.pediatrics.wisc.edu/childrenshosp/parents_of_preemies/pvl.html

http://www.babyzone.com/drnathan/premature/pvl.asp

Some of these sites contain duplicate information but each of them has
further resources.

I originally found the spelling at the following site link:

http://my.webmd.com/encyclopedia/article/4118.273

After that, the search terms I used in Google were:

+"periventricular leukomalacia" +pvl +"what is"

Entering the above terms presented me with the following link which
contained the sites I mentioned and many more:

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Regards,

ames
