It depends on the type of cell. For example, most human cells have 46
chromosomes, but egg and sperm cell have half that number, 23. Some
animals and plants have less than this, some have more. For example,
dogs have 78 chromosomes, gorrilla and other apes have 48, cats have
38 and tomatoes have 24. You might find these links helpful:
