I would like to save url's for possible future reference.
Is there a way of manipulating the list of recently used urls which
pops up when you press the down arrow right to the currently used url
(which is underneath the dividing line between "history" and "Mail" in
internet
explorer 6 windows 98)? By manipulating I mean converting it to a text
file, and deleting or adding items to it. I realize it can be saved in
a document-word pad, but how can text be extracted from a word pad to
make it manipulable as a text file?

Thank you, hocus-ga, very much for your advice. But I do not know how
to unzip metapad.exe. Would very much appreciate your advice.
Thanks

Download metapad from
http://www.liquidninja.com/metapad/download.html. Extract the
metapad.exe to your windows folder on C: Drive. Then use metapad
instead of notepad to save urls in normal text files. When you open
them use Ctrl +K combination to activate / deactivate hyperlinks even
in a text file.

My HTML editor (Arachnophelia) has an option to convert tag delimiters
"< and >" in selected HTML
to "< and ">"
and also to convert these back again from imported text.

Imported HTML in Excel or Word with "< and ">" is seen as normal
text, wich you can manipulate with all the available Excel or Word
options.
You can also import the HTML in Access as database files and enjoy the
Acess options.

If your HTML editor does not have this possibility perhaps you can use
find and replace to archive a similar result.
