Hello - I need to find out how to change the text inside the tooltip that appears when mousing over a URL shortcut icon inside the Windows XP Quick Launch area. It should be easy doing a rename via right-click but it does not seem to work. To replicate my problem, please do the following: 1. Go to http://www.onlinehomebase.com/test.html 2. Drag the link called "test" into your Windows XP Quick Launch Area and create a short cut there. When mousing over the icon, the tooltip on my computer says "Yahoo! http://www.yahoo.com/". I want it to change so that the tooltip reads "abc". However, right-clicking the icon, and choosing rename and setting the name to "abc" does not change the tool tip. To answer this question, please provide a method that will change the tooltip to read "abc". Thank you. Marc. | |

You need to right click on the shortcut in the QuickLaunch, and change the field "Comment", not rename the shortcut. Please inform me if this works. |

It's a round-about way, but it worked for me: ---------------- open notepad. type - ' start iexplore "http://www.yahoo.com/" ' (minus single quotes only) file, save as, save as test.bat, save as type all files drag this into quicklaunch bar now you can rename it, change icon, and most importantly, define a comment (through properties) ------------------- if you don't want to use internet explorer change "iexplore" to your browser - e.g. "firefox" ------------------- |
