I'm looking for close equivalents to the UK government's Career
Development Loan (CDL), but available in the United States. As I understand
it, a CDL is available for up to £8,000 to someone who is going to
take a training or home study program. It offers good interest rates,
an interest-free grace period starting from the date of the training,
and is available to someone with bad credit and no collateral.
The basic criteria for the loan I am looking for is:
1. Available in the U.S. to U.S. citizens/residents
2. Available to someone with bad or damaged credit
3. Available to someone who does not own a home
4. Available for between $5,000 and $10,000
5. Available nationwide
6. Does not require a written business plan (such as an SBA 7(a))
The closest I have found so far is Cash Call (www.cashcall.com), but
it is only available in a few states. The interest rates and terms are
not as important as the 6 criteria above. |

I am looking for either 1 nationwide equivalent or some regional
equivalents. For example, Cash Call is available in California, New
Mexico, and Utah. If there were a company which handled the east coast
and one which handled the southern states, these would be just what
I'm looking for.

you need? If so, how many similar services would you want listed as a

American Unsecured comes close, but it requires the applicant to have
"very good to excellent credit". For some reason loan companies like
to hide from their website the criteria they use the qualify people
for loans, and they have to be called on the phone to get all the
details. I've found plenty of unsecured loan companies, but none that
match all of the 6 criteria.
I would love to get information for 3 lending resources, but would
gladly give a 5-star rating for just 1 which met all of the criteria.
Cash Call is so close, it is the model lending company I'm looking
for, but unfortunately it's only available in 3 states. I doubt that
Cash Call could be the only one of its kind, but I haven't yet found
anything like it on my own. (Even a reference to 1 company similar to
Cash Call would be a worthwhile answer.)

Beneficial seems to be much closer to the type of lender I'm looking
for. While not exactly matching criteria #2 ("less than perfect
credit" is hard to quantify and is not like Cash Call's claim that
they finance people with "bad or damaged credit"), they do at least
judge loans based on not only credit, but income as well (which is
what Cash Call does).
3 sources at the same level as Beneficial or better would be excellent.

your criteria. But frankly, it's difficult to evaluate the extent of

I've now had a chance to call each of these companies. Beneficial
turned out to be an excellent match, but unfortunately not any of the
others.
I'd really appreciate if you could try and find maybe 1 or 2 companies
just like beneficial. However, even if you can't, go ahead and
"answer" or close the question so that I can get you payment.
