I'm looking for websites that have an archive of movie reviews and commentaries (actually, it's not so much the movie review I'm after, but a commentary, response, article or essay on certain movies. I want to study peoples thoughts and reflections on box office movies that they have seen). Specifically, for the movies "The Gladiator", "Remeber the Titans", and "Best Seller". A movie review by Siskel an Ebert is easy to find on the web, but I'm looking for review or commentary that examines the movies I stated above in a deeper more thoughtful way. | |

Hello Dedios, A huge resource with user-submitted commentaries and reviews is the #1 online reference for movies. IMDB - Internet Movie DataBase http://www.imdb.com Entering the movie title in the box on the left will bring you to many movies, like: Gladiator - IMDB http://us.imdb.com/Title?0172495 On the bottom of the review, you will find the link "read customer reviews at Amazon.com". Amazon.com provides user comments along with the shopping: Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com Gladiator - Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00003CXE7 These two sites should give you a good feeling on people's thoughts on a movie. ---- One of the top sites for archived movie reviews in general is: RottenTomatoes.com http://www.rottentomatoes.com The search box in the upper right provides easy access to the movies you mentioned: Gladiator - RottenTomatoes http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/Gladiator-1096836/ Remember the Titans - RottenTomatoes http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/RemembertheTitans-1100188/ Best Seller - RottenTomatoes http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/BestSeller-1002197/preview.php First, you can see an overview of reviews with a quote and source to click on. RottenTomatoes acts as portal site to reviews, so their content is often outside of the site itself; reviews of other sites will open in a right-hand frame, with the navigation to the left. ---- When I'm seeking background information on a movie, I also enter the title (enclosed in quotation marks) at Google. For a given movie, you could couple the title with the keyword "review", e.g.: "remember the titans" review Above search brings you to pages of sites like: All-Reviews.com http://www.all-reviews.com PopMatters.com http://www.popmatters.com Hope this helps! Search strategy: (I knew the sites mentioned) |

This contains summaries and links of many reviews for each movie (video/music/game) http://www.metacritic.com/ "Gladiator" had 34 reviews. http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/gladiator This one might also be helpful for the "The Gladiator" portion of the paper. http://www.filmanalysis.com/film/gladiator.htm Good Luck! |

hi dedios, if you don't mind the ads at epinions.com, they have quite a number of film reviewers worthy or your time. some names I read consistently are Grouch, sloucho, mangiotto, Curtis_Edmonds, and Donlee_Brussel. these are mostly regular guys who review films for the love of it and who happen to write well and thoughtfully. sometimes I think their love of cinema may border a bit on the obsessive but we all have our hobbies. ;-) here are a couple of Grouch's on the films you mentioned. (used with permission) Remember the Titans: http://www.epinions.com/content_18361978500 Gladiator: http://www.epinions.com/mvie-review-7D75-1A67EEE-39176974-prod1 here are several other film sites definitely worth a look: http://www.culturedose.com http://www.filmfreakcentral.net http://www.txreviews.com http://www.allmovie.com for foreign films, I've found these guys especially helpful for their in depth analysis. http://www.sensesofcinema.com/index.html http://www.geocities.com/nathan_wolfson/reviews.html **check out his "Wings of Desire" essay if you're a Wim Wenders fan. |
