Does anyone know the best ways to extract RSS feed(s) to have content
displayed as a live/updated feed on a separate webpage? I found
www.rssfeedreader.com and was wondering if there are the
alternatives/competitors to this, open source/free options out there?

Thanks so much!

I was set to answer this then realized I don't know if you are looking
for code to add to your site to accept and display RSS feeds, or if
you are looking for free RSS aggregators which will generate a simple
piece of code you can cut and paste into an RSS-capable site.

Let me know if this makes sense and, if so, which one you want.

to clarify.... I am looking for other ways to accomplish what
www.rssfeedreader.com does, which is code that goes on my site that
pulls in other RSS feeds and displays them to anyone who visits my
site, in essence having a constantly updated content feed from other
sources. The nice thing about rssfeedreader is its relatively
low-tech, and doesnt require a whole lot of techy coding knowledge.

While the http://google.com/ig site is very cool, as I understand it,
it is designed for ONE user to use and customize their own page for
themseleves, and not a public webpage.

I guess I assumed this would be a pretty common thing by now.
thanks for your help.

you can use http://google.com/ig

The personalized homepage was created to bring together the stuff that
interests you from across the web. From an engineering perspective,
this became an opportunity to create a framework for all types of
content and information. Supporting RSS and Atom feeds was one step in
that direction, and today we're excited to start supporting richer web
apps as well.

In the past I wrote a server-based java aggregator and web application
that used Rome (under the Apache license) with Hibernate for
persistence and Velocity for templated displays. Aggregated
subscriptions to multiple feeds could be updated very frequently (say
every minute), and the aggregator coud handle 1000s of different feeds
and custom subscriptions. One word of caution though, some sights
will block you for hitting the rss feed too frequently, slashdot being
one example of this.

Rome is available here ...
https://rome.dev.java.net/

As i remember, there are no equivalent open source libraries in C# or
C, but there are some in Perl, but this was about a year ago so things
may have changed.

Hope this helps,
Kindageeky
