Hello.

I believe that you're thinking of "Passion and Prejudice" (2001).

From the Internet Movie Database:
"When prim and proper New England college professor Gwen Barry
(Titanic's Frances Fisher) hires handsome young prison inmate Dalton
Roy (Derwin Jordan) to tend her yard through a prison work furlough
program, their mentor-student relationship soon turns into a
passionate love affair. But when Dalton completes his prison sentence,
meets a pretty young college student (Kandyse McClure), and attempts
to start over again on his own, Gwen becomes obsessed with remaining a
part of Dalton's life or destroying it completely."

Also see:
"This is the true story of Dr Gwen Barry (Frances Fisher), a sexually
repressed woman with a lifetime of passion simmering just below the
surface. When she hires a day-release prisoner- the muscular Dalton
(derwin Jordan)- to help with her garden, they soon start an
exhilarating affair. Gwen imagines they will stay together forever
when Dalto leaves prison, but he has his own ideas."

search strategy:
imdb.com plot search: hires prison work

I hope this helps.
