Question ID: 428264
I have an MP3 player, and would like to use it entirely as my car
stereo. It's a handheld unit, in particular the Philips GoGear
HDD6330. It has a line-out jack. I'm wondering if:
-It is possible to bypass having a receiver head unit, with the
line-out going directly to the speakers, possibly through an amp? If
an amp is needed, how many outputs would it need? (I.E. 208 watts
52x4)
-If a receiver must be used, I would need a low features unit thats
inexpensive with plenty of wattage.
-What pieces of equipment would be needed, IE a 2.5 mm jack adapter to
RCA, what type of amp, receiver, etc.
I'd like to do this cheaply, as the mp3 unit containts the meat of the
system, and features on any additional thing would be redundant.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks guys... I should have added that I would like to keep good
clarity and noise ratio, so that would rule out the tape deck or radio
transmitters. Mainly, I would like to know how to bypass the receiver
unit altogether.

A cheap solution is to use a cassette adapter. If your head unit has a
cassette player, you can purchase a cassette adapter that plugs into
the head-phone port of your MP3 player. The other end of the adapter
looks like a cassette tape, and is inserted in to the cassette port on
your head unit.

The adapters can be found at places like Radio Shack. They used to
have them at Target/Wal Mart, but I haven't looked in quite awhile.

Good luck, Hope this helps.

(That's where I got mine!)
