Hi,

My friend has the following problem "Normally, I fax building plans to
my contractors by fax. There are 60 contractors. It takes ages to do
it by hand. For example, plans are 12 pages - I want to fax pages
1,2,3 to contractor no. 1, then 2,3,7 to contractor no. 2, etc. Is
there any way to automate this with my laptop, so that the faxing
happens overnight? I want it to tell me which faxes have got through,
and which ones havn't got through."

Can anyone suggest a solution that runs on a laptop, that could fix my
friends diliemma? The simpler the better.

Shane.

Most fax machines and fax software that I am familiar with have a
built-in capacity to do exactly what you're asking -- "broadcast" a
document to a pre-established list of phone numbers.

Why is your friend having problems? If we understand the situation,
perhaps we can suggest a solution.

Why use a fax machine?

There are many computer=based services that you can use.

I use:

I've just checked the YAC page and they seem to have stopped their
outbound call services.

There will be others.

Good luck!

Clarification:

My friend is running Windows XP on a laptop, would prefer to use the
in-built fax modem on the computer, rather than a faxing service

The reason we would prefer to use the in-built fax modem on the laptop
is that we are located in New Zealand, and international calling rates
from the US to New Zealand is prohibitive.

He has the list of contractors numbers, and pages to fax, in an Excel spreadsheet.

The difficulty we are facing is that we have say some plans, with say
12 pages, and we have to fax different subsets of the to each
subcontractor - say pages 1,2,3 to contractor A, 2,6,8 to contractors
B, etc, for 60 subcontractors.

:) With a built-in faxmodem, perhaps you might just need a fax
"printer"... Whatever format the plans are in, you should be able to
print-to-fax, whatever page numbers you need.

http://www.symantec.com/region/au_nz/product/winfax/ is one (powerful) option.
http://www.memorysuppliers.com/nowipro10oem.html can get it in your
hands from $19+S&H.

Yes, this is the answer that has been confirmed by a couple of others.

I couldn't quicly find an "accept answer" option - how do I accept
this as the official answer?
