(I will pay $20.00 if someone can download the photos sucessfully) There is a web site ..www.photoisland.com where members can have their photos hosted. They are shutting down this month. They have a facility to "download all photos"....but neither myself or 3 others on separate PC's can download anything. It needs a Java enabled browser, that abouts it..but still cannot download nor can by friends who tried to assist. I wish to pay someone $20.00 if they can download the lot then send them to me as an email attachment. I will provide the login and the password to enter the site. Would some one like to try for me ? | |

I would be very careful - there is some sort of JPEG exploit going around I'm not going anywhere near that site. |

The site I quoted I have been a member of for 4 years, there is no security issue , it is a simple matter that they are shutting down but I am encountering problems downloading my own photos from their site. |

Ok - describe the problems Also why, you reckon, that Java (not JScript) must be enabled. I assume you got the stuff up there using FTP - why not FTP it back down ? |

Why on earth would you want to download your own photos? And why, indeed, would you have uploaded them in the first place? |

Facultative, I see that you are new to GA and that so far none of your questions has been answered by a researcher. You might like to know that researchers are identifiable by having their names in blue and underlined as links that take you to their answer history. The rest of us, with no special treatment to our names, are just commenters who drop by to read and sometimes remark on other people's Q's and A's. All who've posted here so far are commenters. You can't post anything to a researcher here that the rest of the world won't see. And you can't correspond privately with a researcher. Those are against the rules. So there's really no secure way to send logins and passwords to someone through this system. My comment is a question: Don't you have your own originals?--that is, whatever you uploaded from? If so, why not just let the website go down without worrying about it? You won't be losing anything. Surely you did not destroy your only copies after uploading to share with friends or whatever--? In any case, even a small number of photos would make an awfully large e-mail attachment. Archae0pteryx |

In answer to the comment above. Thanks for your comments and all noted. 1. If I had all the originals I would obviously not bother to try and recover these photos from the web site. I guess that should go without saying. The site has hosted these photos for over 4 years - 2. Large email attachment is not a problem if both sides are on broadband or use FTP to transfer to my web site. |

Hi there facultative, Just a few thoughts. A sudden exodus of clients from www.photoisland.com may have caused some technical difficulties at the site. Have you contacted the webmaster? webmaster@photoisland.com I checked out the download instructions, and it appears you have the option of right-clicking on individual images and downloading them one at a time. Are you able to do that? Or why not pop down to your local Internet cafe or business centre. For $20, I am sure they can tackle the technical problems and try a bit of downloading on your behalf (as long as the images are legal etc). I hope I have not misunderstood the question. * j * |

Re answer above, I have been a member of the site for many years, and Yes I know where to download from and the options. Problem is no one can seem to be able to download in bulk or individually. And yes I have written to the webmaster at the site you maintains no problem. Hnece why I am trying to get someone else to download. These are just normal photos open to public viewing. |

I might could offer to try, but I think that it's going to be hard without a login and password... even as a guest. |
