Question ID: 428374
Was installing Norton Antivirus 2006, and the installation hung at a
stage when everything was almost complete. After waiting for a long
time, I lost patience and abruptly terminated the program. That set
the ball rolling: the installtion file just wouldnt run after this
(not even open a single window or pop up an error message). Also, I
see that NAV2006 has actually crept into the list of installed
programs in the "Add/Remove programs" list but not the Start Menu. And
uninstalling from here also doesnt seem to work (once again, no error
msg, nothing. just keeps quiet if i click on 'Remove'). I even tried
the measures given on Symantec's webpage to remove such improperly
installed packages but that wont work either.

So, I wanna kick this thing out of my system CLEANLY and do a fresh
installation. Any help here?

I think you should install the NAV 2006 again and may be it solves
your problem. Or If it still doesnt solve you can Install

Add/Remove Platinum 2004 1.0.7
Add-Remove Master 5.0

Try these softwares to remove your NAV 2006.

I am sure now your problem is solved.

I've seen this problem several times and have almost always been able
to fix it using removal tools specific to this problem, esp. nonav for
older versions and rnav for newer ones (just google them). If this
doesn't work, I've also gotten good results by manually deleting all
norton antivirus files from the program folder and then manually
removing EVERY associated registry key. I wouldn't recommend this
unless you absolutely have to, though - it's very very tedious and if
you're not VERY careful, you can do severe damage to your registry
(back it up first!). You may be able to find specific instructions on
doing this somewhere online...

good luck, though.

Thanks for your comments. Will try the softwares suggested. I've
howveer tried REINSTALLTION of Norton, and as described in the
question, the setup file DOES NOT open the setup window anymore. All I
can see is a background process 'navsetup' running and to add to the
misery, this cannot even be termineted using the task
manager(Permission denied).
