HI this question was restructured from a different question. I am looking for a few websites, or even an official government website, detailing laws/ordinaces about the following things in the United Kingdom: Bringing prescription medication into the country, and getting refills. How long a citizen of the United States can stay in the country, before requiring a work permit or Visa. What is the law on bringing a cat from the US into the UK? Is passport for pets active for US citizens and their pets? What is the ruling on credit profiles within the UK? Do you have to be a citizen to have, something like a Social Security Number? Or are you assigned one when you visit/move? |

Dear tbonecopper-ga, The legislation covering these matters are very voluminous, and is not only UK laws but is also EU legislation. The following web sites should provide the guidance which you are seeking. Prescriptions and medical matters ========== Brief introduction on bringing medicines into the UK by the British Embassy in Washington DC http://www.britainusa.com/sections/articles_show_nt1.asp?i=41123&L1=41118&L2=41123&a=28529&D=3 UK Government?s Department of Health and Social Security guide to overseas visitors on obtaining health care in the UK - detailed information. Emergency care is free, but other treatment and prescriptions depend on whether you are classed as a resident of the UK or a visitor. http://www.dh.gov.uk/PolicyAndGuidance/International/OverseasVisitors/OverseasVisitorsBrowsableDocument/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=4099060&MULTIPAGE_ID=4954581&chk=h9MVFS Visa ==== UK Government web site - UK Visas and whether you require a visa http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1006977149953 British Embassy in Washington DC - Visa information http://www.britainusa.com/visas/visas.asp Working ====== Government site - Working in the UK (seems be temporarily unavailable when I tried to access it, but I know from personal knowledge that this I site to look at.) http://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk/ British Embassy in Washington DC - Working in the UK http://www.britainusa.com/sections/index_nt1.asp?i=41124&L1=41000&L2=41124&d=0 Pets === Government site - Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Pet travel information http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm British Embassy in Washington DC - Pet Travel information http://www.britainusa.com/sections/index_nt1.asp?i=41095&L1=41000&L2=41095&D=0 Credit Agencies ============ Depending on the circumstance surrounding residence and employment you may be issued with a National Insurance Number. This Government site provides some information on the system. The site is also has useful information on tax matters. HM Customs and Excise - National Insurance Number http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/nic/ynino.htm Home page http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/ There are four main credit references in the UK. The Government?s Financial Services Authority has information on how credit reference agents operate in the UK. There is also additional consumer information and guidance on financial matters in the UK. http://www.fsa.gov.uk/consumer/04_CREDIT_DEBT/mn_lender_info.html http://www.fsa.gov.uk/consumer/04_CREDIT_DEBT/mn_file_info.html You will not encounter the involvement of a credit reference agency until you apply for credit. Giving previous US addresses will allow the agencies to check back to the US and also create a new UK record. Experien is one such agency and their consumer page provides some guidance. You will see a reference to US records. http://www.uk.experian.com/consumer/index.html I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as soon as I receive it.
