I was hoping to determine the exact amount of wealthy individuals in
the US, Florida and specifically in Palm Beach and Naples, Florida
(wealthy individual defined as someone with greater than $5 million in
assets). I am looking for:
1. The number of wealthy individuals in the US, the state of Florida,
Palm Beach, Florida and Naples, Florida.

I have some time limitations, so please answer as quickly and
accurately as possible. Thanks a ton.

Hello there.

Interesting set of questions you've asked. I think you can get at
least one of them answered (maybe even more than one) but it would
mean reaching a common understanding with the researchers:

1) I don't think any can offer an EXACT answer, though we can
certainly tell you what the available data shows

2) It may be necessary to relax your criteria a bit in terms of
definitions of "wealth".

For instance, I accessed one data source that gives data for the
numbers of households that (1) earn more than $250,000 a year and (2)
own homes worth $1 million or more.

By those criteria -- and according to the source I looked at -- there
are at least 379,573 such households in the US.

The data are also available for states and cities (or for that matter,
counties or zip codes).

For instance, Palm Beach, Florida has 1,416 households that meet the
above criteria for wealth.

Would those types of numbers meet your needs?

Let me know.

To be honest with you, because of the kind of market research I'm
involved with, I can't relax the criteria. The market I'm targeting
is not just millionaires...they are pentamillionaires or wealthier. I
realize that this information is not easy to find - I personally have
spent hours looking. If the information is not out there, c'est la
vie I suppose.

All right, maybe I can help you after all.

I found a marketing database that DOES in fact, allow counts of
individual based on their net worth. I cannot attest to how
comprehensive the database may be, but it produces numbers that look
like this:

Number of individuals with a net worth of $5 million or more in:

The US...........18,656

In Naples, FL.......149

Would those sorts of numbers work for you? If so, I can easily run
them for Florida, and for Palm Beach.

Let me know.

Yes, that would be perfect. Thanks for your diligence.

By the way, is it also possible to run that search on people with a
net worth of >$10 million and >$15 million? I don't know how much
extra work that is for you, but I'd be happy to compensate you for it.

Thanks for sticking this out with me.

I can't offer you a $15 million list, since the system I located tops
out at $10 million.

However, here are the numbers for net worth of more than $5 million,
and more than $10 million.

Hey...! Two out of three ain't bad, right...?

Please don't rate this answer until you have everything you need.
Just post a Request for Clarification, and I'll be happy to help as
best I can.

Cheers,

high-end mailing lists, and allows searches of its system based on
several different criteria, including geography and net worth.

You can see the search page yourself at:

http://www.dmlist.com/servlet/LBListServlet

Conducting a number of searches for the criteria you asked about, the
system returns the following:

Net Worth $5 million or above:

US................18,656

Florida............1,787

Palm Beach...........128
[zip code 33480 ]

Naples...............149
[zip codes 34102, 34103, 34104, 34105, 34108, 34109, 34110, 34112,
34113, 34114, 34116, 34117, 34119, 34120]

==========

Net Worth $10 million or above:

US................10,511

Florida............1,350

Palm Beach...........107

Naples...............104

DMLists.com also sells the contact information for this elite crowd,
if that's something of interest to you.

It's interesting to note that in the US as a whole, the above-$10
millionaires are fewer by almost half compared to the above-$5
millionaires, but in Florida, the numbers don't change all that much,
and in the two cities, hardly at all.

The zip code data lists, by the way, come from this rather useful site:

Again, let me know if there's anything else you need.

Today I spoke with the data supplier because I was a little bit
skeptical of the results that were displayed (I am of the opinion that
the market of very affluent investors in Palm Beach has to be at least
4,000). He mentioned that Yes, his data didn't capture the entire
market; it only captured the affluent investors that were open to
receiving marketing materials via mail (email or regular mail...this
amounts to a very small portion of the target market [how many people
like receiving junk mail?]). To be honest, that data is far from
accurate.

Can you continue to help with the search for a correct answer?

Clarification of Answer by pafalafa-ga on 16 Nov 2004 08:31 PST
capitalidea-ga,

I guess your earlier enthusiasm that the data I found would be
"perfect" was a bit premature! I do hope you noticed my Nov 14
comment regarding my not being sure about how comprehensive (or not!)
the data was.

I will continue to look for what's available. I feel a caution is in
order, though. The only sources of information like this that I am
aware of would be mailing list services such as DMLists, and they are
all likely to suffer from similar shortcomings.

Let me take a day to see what else might be available, and I'll get
back to you after I finish searching. But I wouldn't get your hopes
up too high that any new information will show up...

Clarification of Answer by pafalafa-ga on 17 Nov 2004 14:46 PST
As expected, I did not uncover any other sources of data that would
provide a more complete picture of wealthy folks in the areas of
interest to you. At this point, I don't have any new ideas of where
to explore or how to generate the type of data you asked about.

Let me know how you would like to proceed at this point. Customers at
Google Answers are generally not obligated to accept an answer if they
are unhappy with the results, so if that is the case, let me know, and
I'll find a way to make it right.

Best of luck with your ventures.
