I would like to obtain a copy of a 1972 Greek film titled 'O Ehthros Tou Laou'. It was directed by Yannis Dalianidis and was based on Ibsen's play 'An Enemy of the People'. I need a copy with English subtitles. Where can I get it from? |

The Internet Movie Database entry for this film - http://us.imdb.com/Tsearch?title=O+Ehthros+Tou+Laou - indicates that there is no video/DVD available in the US. UK, Canada or Germany; and it seems possible that it was not released in any other country than Greece (and perhaps Cyprus); so even if a video is available in Greece, it may not have English subtitles. One line of enquiry for you would be to email the person who posted the only review on Imdb - click on his name, geotsir, on the webpage. |

Not listed in this filmography: http://www.ibsen.net/index.db2?id=2947 However, you could contact ibsen.net by using this form http://www.ibsen.net/index.db2?id=13549 or by sending an e-mail ("Enquiries about the individual films should be addressed to") http://www.ibsen.net/index.db2?id=13434 "About ibsen.net" "Ibsen.net is the official web pages of the National Ibsen Committee of Norway": http://www.ibsen.net/index.db2?id=1414 |

Further to my comments on this question and your other on the Japanese film "Minshu no teki", the Ibsen filmography to which fp-ga refers is probably wrong in excluding the Greek film, which was certainly based on the Ibsen play, "An Enemy of the People". But as for the Japanese film, I have now found various references by searching on Google for "Minshu no Teki", but none of them makes any reference to Ibsen; one did, however, refer to the film having sexual and drug content, so if it was an adaptation, it was fairly loose! Also, the phrase is perhaps better translated as "Public Enemy", so it was perhaps more an urban film noir. All in all, however, I doubt if copies of either film are available outside their countries of origin. |
