There is the "Teacher Next Door" program through HUD that is available
nationwide, where HUD discounts homes by 50% of the list price,
provided you buy from their list, select a home near where you work
and meet the 3 year occupancy requirement.

Dear cynthia-ga,

I am aware of the Teacher Next Door program and have been following
their available houses each Wednesday for several years, but I have
never found a property available in Manhattan. Also, it deals with
whole buildings (houses) and not apartments (co-op's), as far as I
know. If there was something like this for apartments in Manhattan, I
would be greatly interested. Thank you in advance for any help or
clarification.
