The How Stuff Works site has quite a bit of information complete with drawings, animations and diagrams. How IMAX Works http://stuffo.howstuffworks.com/imax.htm The article above has lots of internal links that lead to details on particular parts of the technology, such as sound and film types. Of particular interest might be the articles on projectors (of which IMAX is the giant version) and screens. How Movie Projectors Work http://stuffo.howstuffworks.com/movie-projector.htm How Movie Screens Work http://stuffo.howstuffworks.com/movie-screen.htm This site takes a more technical approach, including photos of the mechanism: The Basics of The Rolling Loop IMAX Projector http://www.in70mm.com/newsletter/1997/48/tbp_projection/projector.htm Additional Information ------------------------ IMAX - Wikipedia http://www.free-definition.com/IMAX.html There is a good photo of the projector here: Exploris http://www.exploris.org/visit/imax/imaxtechnology.html Search strategy --------------- IMAX projector Start with the first site I mentioned, How Stuff Works. There's a lot of good information there with links to whatever particulars you want to explore further. I hope you enjoy reading about IMAX, and that the links I provided get you the information you need! - Hammer |

You might want to look at IMAX's website too. http://www.imax.com/ImaxWeb/imaxExperience.do?param_section=thecnoImaxIntro¶m_subMenuSelect=thecnoImaxSelect¶m_subLeftSelect=thecnoImaxIntroSelect If you have trouble with the above link, go to the home page. Click on "The IMAX Experience" and then "The Technology of IMAX" or "How IMAX Works" More sites: http://www.film-tech.com/pics/imaxin/imaxin.html http://history.acusd.edu/gen/filmnotes/imax.html http://www.1570films.com/ Additional note: There is a difference between IMAX and IMAX®Dome (OMNIMAX), although they are all now commonly called IMAX. IMAX is on a "flat" screen while the other (obviously) is on a dome. |
