I run linux and occasionally need to download bit-torrent files for
various iso's and other uses. My ISP throttles the speeds for the
bit-torrent ports to almost nothing, and downloading becomes extremely
slow. I do however have extremely fast ssh connection to another
linux box (on which I have root) that does not have these bittorrent
related issues. I would like to setup ssh tunnelling for the
bit-torrent ports, but am unsure exactly what I need to tunnel. My
question is, can you give me detailed instructions on how to set up
ssh tunnelling from the command line so that I can use a regular
bittorrent client such as Azureus through that tunnelling?

Hi,

You should be able to specify custom ports with your Bittorrent
client, or you could set up a SOCKS proxy on your Linux box.

Thanks.

Hello Wetdragon,

Have you checked out
  http://dessent.net/btfaq/#speed
which describes a number of speed related issues?

In particular, if you have a high speed downlink / lower speed uplink,
there are some limits you should set to improve the download speed.

I don't know anything about the SOCKS proxy. I tried custom ports,
and my ISP is still apparently able to block them. I can monitor the
transfers and connections to a particular peer are in the range of
8bytes/second. Most peers sever the connection pretty fast at that
speed and I never get anywhere. Running over xwindows on the remote
linux box seems to not have this issue at all.
