I have a house with lightishyellow brick walls, and an extension which
needs tobe painted; location = Melbourne, Australia; I'm wanting a
colour suggestion, or suggestions re paint effects that will work
together. I dont like yellow, so would like to minimise the 'idea' of
yellow...
ideas of which colours could look good?

My mother's house is buff brick. When she bought the house, she chose
to paint the attached garage and the areas under the eaves of the roof
a pale cream. The front door, the shutters, and other areas of "trim"
are painted a subdued coral color. When she told me of her plans, I
didn't think it was going to look good; I thought the coral color
would be too vivid, and would look tacky. But I was wrong. It looks
great. The pale cream with coral trim brings out the warmth of the
yellowish brick.

Regardless of which color you pick, it would certainly help to bring
both parts of the house together if you used shutters or window trim
on the brick that's the same color as what you pick for the extension.

Hi skenig,

Here's a little online Flash tool from Dulux. You can choose from a
range of typical Australian housing styles, and play around with the
colour schemes.

I found it a little tricky to use at first, but soon I was painting
like a virtual pro. The custom palettes might come in handy if you're
not sure where to start colour-wise.

All the best,
