I visited the Museo del Prado in the mid 90's and saw a painting there
that I have since not been able to find anything about. It was not
that large (perhaps 4'x5') and depicted God sitting on his throne atop
the earth. In his arms was Christ, dead, in a classic Pieta-type pose.
I'm not sure if the artist was Spanish or not, but would love to know
more about htis painting if anyone can help.

Dear cammiled-ga,
This is quite a common theme in religious painting. Is it one of these
two which are both in the Prado?

I believe it is the first of the two you listed. It is the expression
on God's face that has intrigued me, but it is hard to see it in such
a small image. Are there others like this that you know of? Perhaps
this wasn't a part of the Prado's permanent collection and is
elsewhere now.

This is a larger image.

As I indicated, this theme is very common in religious painting, so if
it is no longer in the Prado, it would be very difficlut to now track
it down.
Let me know if this is the one you are seeking.
