I was in an accident many years ago, and believe I have a condition
related to that (though I'm not positive it was). I'm hoping to get an
insurance plan that will classify my cosmetic nose surgery as
reconstructive surgery so I can be covered. I would want an ultra-low
deductible if possible.

1. Will the doctor be able to determine if it was due to a car
accident, or does the insuance company decide that?

2. Will I be able to get covered, given that the condition is pre-existing?

3. What insurance companies would cover it, if any?

I should say that someone I know did have a very long-ago defomity
fixed and the insurance company did cover it. The deformity was due to
an accident. But his workplace covered it, and I believe some workers
insurance covers pre-existing conditions, while I doubt if I can get
it indepentantly.

This is just a free comment and absolutely no medical or professional
advice about insurance.
If your / his/her nose is not causing any problems, it would seem the
"pre-existing conditions" refers to things like a heart attack or
stroke, or on-going medical problems such as diabetes, multiple
sclerosis and also, of course, any form of cancer.

Maybe I have misunderstood your concern about the nose damage and operation.

Hmm...

Insurance companies are not charities

However I have a strong suspicion that medical rates are hiked to
cover 'discounts' given to insurance companies, also that insurance
companies will 'front' for people to allow them access to the lower
rates.

myoarin, reconstructive surgery is ordinarily covered by most health
insurance, just as a heart attack, stroke, etc. would be. So, I'm not
sure why you believe that a condition would be considered any
different than all other common pre-existing conditions.

frde, while health insurance companies are not charities, I have seen
it stated on most of their websites that they do pay for the cost of
pre-existing conditions after a certain number of months. Also, its
not as if I'm going to stop needing health insurance after my surgery,
so I hardly see it as a hand-out when I would imagine the company will
make a large amount of money off of me over a period of years.

Centure7,
Thanks, I now believe that you are right, especially since any
insurance covered care may turn up on some industry-wide file (which I
suspect exists).
