Israel was not founded until 1967.

So the figures:

1930 = Nil

1940 = Nil

1950 = Nil

According to the ITN Factbook for 1990, the only one I have:

Total Population was 4,442,000 of which 83% were Jewish and 16.8% Arab.

Judaism is the faith of 82% of the population dominated by:

Ashkenazin (derived from European countries) and

Sephardin (derived from Balkan States, Africa and Middle East)

The figures included 10,000 Falashas - Ethiopian Jews airlifted to
Israel over the previous 16 years.

That's all that I have!

I am pretty sure that I read in an old naturalist's book that in 1900
the total population was about 100,000

The area seems remarcably fecund.

Bryan's 1990 figures need to be adjusted for the last 14 years, which
saw a massive immigration from Russia.

Interestingly, the jokes I learnt from my Israeli friends about
Russians, now get a stony response when I repeat them back to them.
Some rapid absorbtion has taken place - quite an interesting
phenomenon.

My understanding (and having partaken of the amber liquor, I can't be
bothered to dig out the CIA site) is that about 20% of Israeli
citizens are currently of 'Arab' descent - which more accurately put
would be, not purportedly of the Jewish religion - even that would be
inaccurate.

One thing one can be very certain about, is that a heck of a lot of
Israelis were born there and know no other home. Astonishingly they
have invented (or re-invented) a language and something of a culture.
They are also pretty punchy - like the animal in the French zoo
