For a novelist looking to make their initial break and sell their 1st
novel, WITH NO INTEREST IN SELLING TO OR WORKING WITH HOLLYWOOD, how
good a base is LA?
How does it compare with New York, London (UK) & Vancouver BC in
opportunities to get a literary agent, make good personal networking
contacts etc.
and how important are these matters, and location, to an aspiring novelist?
Are LA and, perhaps to lesser degree, Vancouver west coast hubs of
modern culture generally that provide lots of opportunities to sell a
novel, get an agent (for novels not screenplays) and make useful book
publishing contacts?
Alternatively, does their film industry focus push out other types of
literary industry and consequently make them very poor alternatives to
New York or London?
I realise it is difficult to assign % values to such concepts but I
would really appreciate, and find most useful, an intelligent
approximated %s and rankings anyone might be in
a credible position to offer.
So, if New York would rank perhaps 100% as the best town to make your
contacts and first break as a novelist, what would LA rank - 90%? 50%?
10%?!
It would make a very big difference to me to know.
Thanks, in advance, for your help with this.
