I am an 18 year old male now attending a tech college. I am starting
to show signs of myopia. My vision use to be beyond perfect. Like my
grandfather I have 20/10 in my left eye and 20/15 in my right eye.
Actually I had this vision. Two years ago it started to change. I
suddenly had 20/15 in both eyes. I returned from the eye doctors a few
weeks ago horrified. My vision is now 20/25 in my left eye which use
to be 20/10, while in my right eye I now have 20/20 rather than my
former 20/15. My grandfather never lost his perfect vision until he
reached his mid sixties. When he did his left eye failed much faster
than his right eye. He never did much reading or close work till he
reached that age. He was a watch man in the navy and a mason in his
youth. I however am loosing my vision and showing signs of myopia much
earlier than him. I noticed the difference in my vision before I went
to the doctor both times. Now can I feel it getting worse all the time
(it?s not in my head). I looked online for many causes. I believe it
is because of close work. Until recently I use to never do schoolwork,
(I was one of those kids that got A?s with out trying) or any other
close work for that matter. During the past two and half years I have
been glued to my laptop. I use it all the time, at least 12 hours a
day if not more, in class to take notes, to do homework and business.
I have read in many places that getting minus glasses is the worst
thing you can do for myopia. Only a few websites suggested getting
plus glasses when reading for extended periods of time to prevent
myopia. Even fewer suggested pinhole glasses. My questions are: How
can I revert my eyes back to their original super perfect vision? If I
continue to do so many hours of close work will my myopia get worse,
or does vision only worsen after say loosing about 15 (as was lost by
my left, dominant, eye). Is it a bad idea to wear reading glasses when
working for extended periods of time to prevent myopia? Will I then
develop farsightedness or a dependence upon them instead (honestly I?d
rather put on glasses when reading than when playing sports)? What
about pinhole glasses? And finally why did I have such great vision,
were my eyes farsighted, was my lens just very flexible or do I have
lots of extra sensors in my eyes?
Thanks a lot. |
