argy345-ga: The name of the third-party add-on software is Pocket Hotmail (well, it does describe its function pretty good...). You can read about it from the developer's website, here: http://www.frieger.com/photmail/faq.html You can also find links to online PPC software stores that sell the program, here: http://www.frieger.com/shop.html#photmail Note that there is a trial version of the software available to try before you buy, and you can find links to download the trial version from the online stores. Note also that there is a beta version available on the developer's website, that has much better support for Windows Mobile 2003 / Pocket PC 2003. If your HP iPaq has Pocket PC 2003 instead of Pocket PC 2002, then try downloading and installing the beta version instead: http://www.frieger.com/photmail/beta.html I personally have a Dell Axim running PPC2003; this beta version works quite well. There are a lot of tips on troubleshooting installation problems, located on the developer's website: http://www.frieger.com/photmail/faq.html In my case, even after I installed it I had to tweak a few settings to get it to download my e-mails. In particular, after following all of the instructions to install the software, I then had to tweak a hard-to-find setting in Tools>Manage Folders, highlight 'Inbox', then Tools>Options to increase the display setting from '0 Days' to '7 Days' so that I could see my e-mails. This last bit will only make sense after you install the software, of course. I hope that this software works for you; I sure like it. Regards, aht-ga Google Answers Researcher |

argy345-ga: Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, it looks like Microsoft wants to spoil our fun with e-mail. MSN Hotmail announced earlier this year that they would be discontinuing 'free' access to Hotmail using anything other than an active web browser session. They had mentioned that existing users of the non-browser, WebDAV-based approach would be allowed to continue using this until some time in early 2005. Their justification for making WebDAV access a paid service (available only to those who subscribe to a premium Hotmail class of service) is that the approach was being abused by spammers to send mass mails through automated programs. Why they didn't consider just limiting the number of messages that can be sent through WebDAV in a day, I don't know. Anyway, they've just applied this restriction to my Hotmail account, and now all of my alternate means of accessing my Hotmail account, including Pocket Hotmail, have ceased to work. This also includes my preferred mail program, Mailwasher Pro. The only way for me to continue using these tools as is will be to subscribe and pay for an upgraded class of Hotmail service. I tell you this so that when MS gets around to restricting your Hotmail account, you'll understand why Pocket Hotmail ceases to work. If I come across an alternative, I'll let you know.
