Last week I posted a question which I had answered and would like to
expand upon. The wuestion I asked was titled "xml to multiple html
documents". In referance to the files in that question:

Would it be reasonable to work with google answers on a much
larger web application? ie an application that for each id in the
boca_raton.xml file created a dynamic, scalable, and user customizable
web. The general idea being to have a prebuilt page for every business
for which the owner could add content to and customize to a small
degree. I'm sure it would be thousands of dollars, could you give me
an idea of how many thousands?

Hi,

I can probably write the application you need, but I would need a
complete list of requirements before I can estimate the time and cost
needed and you can adapt your question price and tip accordingly.

Can you please describe your needs in more detail?

Thanks.

What kind of time frame are you looking into?
Are you open to offshore outsourcing?

The time frame is open. As far as offshore outsourcing- I would
naturaly prefer to work with a group that lives next door to me,
however would be more than willing to work with anyone in the world
that would make a reasonable fit.

Hello,

thank you for your response. I apologize for the delay in mine. In
reviewing your response for the first time in almost a month, I looked
to jetspeed to begin looking for some ideas and structure to benchmark
off of. Before I put together my list of requirements I wanted to ask
you, if this Answers question is valid, if jetspeed is an application
that you have or would be willing to work with?

Hi,

I am not sure that I understood your needs well enough but reading
your requirements about "... a dynamic, scalable, and user
customizable web... ...a prebuilt page for every business for which
the owner could add content to and customize to a small degree" I can
guess that perhaps using one of two most popular open source .NET
portals may solve your problem. I mean Rainbow portal -
http://www.rainbowportal.net/ or DotNetNuke portal -
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/.

Both portals are very similar to each other and their main advantage
is the possibility to build very sophisticated web applications
without programming and even without HTML mastering. You may create as
many webs as you need within one portal. Flexible administration
system allows to assign one or more users as top-level administrators
(portal admins) and one or more users as each individual web
administrators.

Web administrators may edit their web sites content by means of
user-friendly web forms including rich-text editors for general pages
with text and images and specific forms for news, events, products
showcase and other types of content. Knowledge of HTML/CSS is not
necessary to manage the content - web administrator works in the
environment similar to standard office application.

Each of the portals includes a large collection of ready-for-use
modules (texts, news, forums, image galleries, e-commerce and hundreds
more), which may be easily placed to any web page without any HTML
authoring or programming. Just a few clicks of your mouse and the web
page is done! The same about graphic decoration of the web pages.
Portal comes with several skins, which may be assigned dynamically to
each of the webs.

In case if you need custom modules for your specific needs or custom
graphic design for individual web sites within the portal then it is
not a problem - both portals have well-specified API for the
connection of 3-rd party modules. It means that .NET programmer may
easily create custom modules with required functionality and web
graphic designer may easily create custom skins. This kind of
customization would hardly cost thousands of dollars, most probably a
few hundreds.

As a company who has an experience in the development of custom
solutions based upon Rainbow or DotNetNuke portals I could recommend
Russian company <a href="http://www.intsoft.spb.ru">Intelligence-Soft</a>
- http://www.intsoft.spb.ru/ . Custom solutions based upon Rainbow or
DotNetNuke portals are shown at
http://www.intsoft.spb.ru/projects2004.html and
http://www.intsoft.spb.ru/portfolio.html .

Please accept my apologies in advance if I did not understand your
needs properly and my advice is useless for you.
