I'd like to buy some tiny, clear rubber bands for jewelry making. The
only ones I can find are the tiny elastics used for braces. However,
dental supply stores online don't seem to carry these -- they are only
sold to orthodontists. Is there any other source for these, or
something similar?

Contact Alliance Rubber company in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They are one
of the largest manufacturers of rubber bands in the world. Let me know
if this proves to be a solution for you.

One option is BLAX hair elastics, which come in both clear and black:

and is available in 2mm and 4mm sizes...both of which are quite small.

Let me know if that does the trick.

Hi treewishes,

You can get orthodontic elastics on-line from J. A. W. Products, Inc.,
amber or neon colored, latex or non-latex, in weights from light to
x-heavy. The non-latex elastics look white in the picture on the
website, but are described as having a "crystal clear appearance."

I looked, but didn't find any other on-line retailer with comparable selection.

Talk to an orthodontist. He can probably sell you a box of hundreds
for less than it will cost you to find another source. Show him what
you do with them. Maybe he or his helpers or clients would like your
work.

Blax elastics are 2 mm and 4 mm WIDE, not diameter.

Alliance Rubber Bands doesn't make orthodontic elastics.

Sorry -- I don't know any orthodontists. I'd like to buy these
online, if possible, which is why I posted the question. I only need
a dozen or so, but would be willing to buy a larger quantity.

I've often bought packages of tiny, clear rubber bands that are used
in the hinge of eyeglasses to tighten the fit. I usually find these in
the same section of a drugstore where you'll find other
eyewear-related items such as the sticky pads that go on the
nosepieces of glasses.
