I am an glider pilot and I want to take up paragliding. I want to know injury/fatality information for the sport worldwide and in the US. How many participate in the sport, how many injuries, how many fatalities. What are the kinds of situations that lead to injuries/fatalities. What is the safest equipment to use. Who has the safest record with respect to teaching paragliding skills. |

I don't know if the FAA tracks hang gliding and paragliding under part 103 (ultralights), but the accident database is here: http://ntsb.gov/ntsb/query.asp Also useful for tracking accidents under part 91, which you, me and almost all glider pilots fly under. Good luck |

I am past president of the association. Around 1 out of 1000 dies in the sport. Some years more, some less. Some of the best places to learn paragliding is Eagle paragliding in Santa Barbara or Airplay in Arizona or Washington. |
