Hi aalltheway, An Excel 2003 spreadsheet can contain up to 65,536 rows. Reference: Excel specifications and limits http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP051992911033.aspx An older version is unlikely to support more rows. A database program might be more suitable for your application. --efn |

Almost without a doubt a database of some type would be more efficient for 500,000 rows of information. Whilst the theoretical limit of Excel (and Lotus 123 before it) is 65,535 the efficiency of any spreadshhet will decay long before the row limit is reached. This is because the spreadshet program has to rescan each and every row and column to recalculate formulae and sumations. As a rule of thumb: If your spreadsheet is too large to scroll from one end to the other in less than 10 seconds then it is probably not the best way of storing your data. |
