Dear Detroit,

Who is behind Maxamac?
The Swede Stephan Karlsten is the founder, SAK Industries Inc is the
parent company.

(See: <http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:3qaGKkn8Jd8J:www.mcgordons.com/News_Bulletin.htm+%22Maxamec%22+founder&hl=en>).

SAK Industries, AB
Ogardesvagen 19A
SE-433 30 Partille
Sweden

Is the building set toy the only product they have?

Yes, as Mexamec, they offer different versions of this product.

Are they as big as they claim?

Mexamec disrtibutes its products around the world. However, I have
seen no actual reports on gains and profits.

Are they legit?

You'll have to define "legit". I have seen no "Better Business" or FTC
reports against them; they seem to sell actual toys, not scams. If
you're asking whether this is an actual company, the answer is yes.
How safe are their toys? I have found no claims to refute their own.
It is interesting to mention, though, that:
- It seems that they rely in distribution on many local distributors;
- Many of the distributors seem to be "Christian" (with small or capital C)

By the way, this is not a very new idea - when I was a child, we used
to have a toy called Meccano, where you basically could assemble
whatever toy you wanted out of its pieces and - unlike Maxamec - it
could be also in some cases become an electric toy.

I am not the only one who seems to think so:
"I went to the Christian Resources Exhibition yesterday with a view to
picking up things of use to us all. Here's a brief summary of some
things which you might find useful to know. [...] If you're looking
for a big creative toy you could do much worse than Maxamec a kind of
huge plastic Meccano. I really wanted to play with it!" (SOURCE:
(Anglican Chruch) Chelmsford Diocesan Board of Finance, "Latest news
archive", <http://www.chelmsford.anglican.org/children/oldlatest.html>).

Because of their distribution system, I would carefully check my
actual chances of selling something. That is, if you have been offered
to become a distributor. If you want to buy it for your child, it
seems legit to me.

I hope this answered your question. Please contact me if you need any
further clarification on this answer before you rate it. My search
terms have been:
- Maxamec with: scam, ftc, bbb, founder, opinions, reviews
- SAK Industries

Heard that they have stopped productions in China over some packaging
requirements issue. Think they are producing in another 3 countries.
