I would like to know if there is a place to obtain an accurate list of
undergraduate majors for universities (least the top 1000). I have
checked college board collegenet, collegetview and petersons online
resources and have found them all to be very inaccurate. It does not
have to be online, and does not have to be free but should be less
than $100.
For example if you go to the university of rhode island and do a
search for majors you get the following
http://www.uri.edu/univcol/acadadv/cai/majorlist.htm
comparing that with the previously mentioned online references and
there are several inconsitancies. |

There are a number of fairly large lists of majors that are provided
for individual states (or for state-run school systems).
For example, here's one such list from Florida:
http://www.flbog.org/academic_programs/prg_inv_sept05.pdf
Would several large lists like the above meet your needs?

I would need the list of majors by each university so such lists would
not be helpful. Thanks for the question, I realise how many ways my
request could have been interpreted.

The list of undergraduate majors should be available by each school.
It would be ok to be referred to a datatbase where each school had to
be entered one by one as long as the information was accurate and upto
date.

Hello again.
It wasn't clear from your question whether you've checked collegeboard.com?
If not, have a look at:
http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=3406&profileId=7
and let me know if this sort of list (which is available for any
college) would meet your needs.
Thanks,

I have checked collegeboard, and the information there is not
accurate. If you compare the majors information on collegeboard from
the information given directly from the website from say for instance
the university of rhode island the information is noticably different.
However in terms of format something like collegeboard would be fine.

Hi tushiroda,
Please take a look at this database and tell me what you think:
http://collegesearch.schoolguides.com/
Compare the University of Rhode Island undergraduate majors:
http://collegesearch.schoolguides.com/details.asp?college_id=188&nav=1&school_name=&state=RI&major=&submajor=&mint=no&maxt=&mine=no&maxe=&cat=
--with the site you provided:
http://www.uri.edu/univcol/acadadv/cai/majorlist.htm
Looking forward to hearing your views.
Best regards,
Rainbow

The accuracy of the site is very good. However after going though a
couple sample universities, I have not found that the site has
undergaduate majors information for only one of dozen schools that I
looked at. To provide a sample list.
Claflin University
orangburg, South Carolina
www.claflin.edu
Columbia College
Columbia, South Carolina
www.columbiacollegesc.edu
Converse College
spartanburg, south carolina
www.converse.edu
Lander University
greenwood, south carolina
www.lander.edu
South Carolina State University
orangeburg, south carolina
www.scsu.edu
The Citadel
charleston, south carolina
www.citadel.edu
Voorhees College
Spartanburg, South Carolina
www.voorhees.edu
Wofford College
spartanburg, Soutth Carolina
www.woffard.edu
It is not helpful to have a database that only contains less than 10%
of the schools that I am looking for. I do apoligise because I should
have provided a more complete sample listing.

The site seems to have a listing for all of the colleges, but the
infomation within the site is not accurate. I have registered and
accessing the the PDF catalogs of the colleges, but they also do not
consistantly list undergraduate majors.

tushiroda-ga,
I'm afraid we might be running out of options, especially given the
difficulty of assessing the accuracy (or lack thereof) of a list in
terms of your criteria.
Perhaps there's another approach.
Can you tell us what purpose this list is intended to serve?
Perhaps if we had some context for why the list is needed, and what
you hope to do with it, we could propose a viable alternative.
Awaiting word...

I work for a company that helps students for college. Basically a
college prep courses books etc. Our students can look for very
specific fields to study, but no such database exists. So we are
compling our own databse to find schools that have degrees of the
students interes. The task is time consuming and costly to do
manually. However I am simply checking to see if there is an
easier/quicker way to obtain the data.
