Colorado. The list should contain 300-1000 individuals and should
contain the following header information: Name, address, phone number,
company name, email address (if possible), title.

Can you clarify what you mean by a "manufacturer representative"?

Even better, if you can also give us one or two examples of a listing
for a "manufacturere representative", it will help us to focus any
research done to try and answer your question.

Thanks.

Here is a more formal definition:
Almost all manufacturers employ Sales Representatives, also known as account
executives or sales engineers. These sales people sell mainly to other
wholesale and retail businesses and factories. They also sell to hospitals,
schools, libraries and other institutions.
Therefore I am not looking simply for a company's sales
representatives who are selling strictly to the end user. I would
like the sales reps (manufacturer reps) who are selling to the
company's resellers, major clients or have exclusivity on a large
region.

In terms of providing a sample list, that seems to be the issue I am
having. Typically these types of representatives are harder to find
since they are selling to the resellers and are atleast 1 level away
from the actual end user.

Hello again, Bryan.

I found an online directory for manufacturers reps that looks to be
highly useful. The directory can be searched by industry type,
geography, keyword or any combination of these.

Full access to the directory is only available by subscription, with
prices starting at $299/year.

However, the directory can be searched at no charge, and returns a
listing of the names of the manufacturer rep companies. A general
search produces a list that looks like this:

AUTOMATIC ENGINEERING
BLACK HORSE MARKETING
COMPONENT SALES WEST
COMPONENTS SALES, INC.
CUTLER INDUSTRIAL SALES, INC.
DATACOM SALES & ASSOCS., INC.
DIVERSIFIED COMPONENTS
E T SALES, INC.
EDERN SALES, INC.
ELECTRONIC SALESMASTERS, INC.
ENDURANCE SALES, INC.
ENVIRONMENTAL SALES SOLUTIONS, INC.
FAIR ENGINEERING SALES, INC.
FLAHERTY SALES CO.

and so on. Descriptions for some of the directory listings look like this:

=====
Automatic Engineering is a full line manufacturers' representative
firm. We have been in business in Oklahoma since 1938. We cover the
entire state of Oklahoma for all of our manufacturers, the entire
state of Arkansas for many of our manufacturers and the panhandle of
Texas for some of our manufacturers. We call on both the industrial
and municipal markets with a focus at the consultant and plant
engineers. Two of our four outside sales staff are registered
professional engineers. Our capabilities include a full service and
fabrication facility. We function as both a commissioned rep and a
buy/resell distributor with a warehouse onsite. Our firm is active in
several professional organizations including ISA, WEF, AWWA, NRWA,
OEL, ELA, NSPE, OSPE, etc.
=====

All told, there are thousands of names in the directory database.
Full contact information is provided once you subscribe to the
service, but as you can see, a lot of information is available even
without subscribing.

Would instructions for using this database serve as an answer to your
question (and again, bear in mind that there is a subscription charge
for full access to the directory).

Let me know.

I just keyed in to the fact that you're interested in Colorado!

The directory lists about a hundred companies with manufacturers reps
in Colorado. The lists starts out like:

ACCUMETRIC LLC. Boss Products
ADVANCE FIBERGLASS, INC. Div. Fib-R-Dor
ALLIANCE METALS, INC.
AMERISTAR MANUFACTURING, INC.
B & U CORP.
BOARDMAN, INC.
BOLTS 4 U
C.A. HOKANS & ASSOCIATES, INC.
CASTER SPECIALTIES & ACCESSORIES, INC.
CASTING TECH SALES
CHURCH-DAILING CO., INC.
CLARK RHEEM & ASSOCS., INC.
CLARK-NORTON CO.

and so on.

Again, let me know if this meets your needs.

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify, if I were a member on this
site, could I compile a list of manufacturing reps, with the phone
numbers, addresses, title and company for a specific industry who live
in and cover a certain geography?

Let me know,

Thanks

Bryan

Yes to all, except the part about where the reps live.

The site allows you to choose where the reps operate out of, and what
territory they cover -- and provides full name, company, phone and
address contact information -- but there is nothing about where they
happen to live.

Note, though, that the focus of the directory is more on companies,
than on individual reps. A typical listing looks like this:

=====
ADVANCE FIBERGLASS, INC.
Div. Fib-R-Dor

Steele, Brad, Marc

150 Long Rd., #60,
Minneapolis, CO 60532
Established: 1971
Sales People: 4.0

Branches
Salt Lake City, UT.

Territory
CO; UT; ID; MT; WY; NM; El Paso, TX.

Products Sold
Commercial door hardware / electronics, weatherstripping flat goods,
floor closers, hinges, exit devices, locks.

The full-access listing (with subscription) provides a full and
correct address (the above address is deliberately garbled by the site
for non-subscribers) and also includes phone, fax and (if available)
email and website.

=====

So you can see that the company includes 4 reps, but the contact
details are only provided for one, presumably the head honcho.

If this sort of information meets your needs, let me know and I will
post the details as an answer to your question.

Hi again,

I have a few points that I wanted to clarify before going forward.

1.) The prices for the directory start at $299 but what does that get
me vs. the higher priced options. (I don't want to find out I really
need a higher priced option) Could you explain the pricing options in
general in greater detail? (Yearly subcription, 1 time charge, list
restrictions, restrictions in general)

2.) Can I download the lists that I create in the directory into an
excel spreadsheet? Is there a limit to the list size? Are there
download restrictions?

3.) How many contacts/ listings are available for the State of Colorado?

4.) Can the list provide the sales figures of the manufacturing rep?

5.) In terms of paying for this Google answer, can I have it billed
to my company? Finally, if the directory ends up not being what I am
looking for, are there any refunds?

Thank you for your help.

Hello again, Bryan. Thanks for the update. Let's take your questions
one at a time...

1.) The prices for the directory start at $299 but what does that get
me vs. the higher priced options.

The service has three pricing options:

$199/yr for manufacturers' rep membership

$299/yr for others

$699/first year for membership + special educational package (live
seminar, books, etc)

All options get you full access to the directory. Membership also
includes access to publications, newsletters, networking
opportunities, professional advisory services, etc.

2.) Can I download the lists that I create in the directory into an
excel spreadsheet? Is there a limit to the list size? Are there
download restrictions?

Yes, you can download the list as a text file. There are no limits or
restrictions that I am aware of.

3.) How many contacts/ listings are available for the State of Colorado?

Unknown. The "test" database that I can use as a non-member contains
deliberatley inaccurate information, so I can't get an accurate count
of contacts in Colorado. However, there appear to be about 5,000
company contacts in the US as a whole (many companies have multiple
reps on staff), so I would guess 100-200 in Colorado.

4.) Can the list provide the sales figures of the manufacturing rep?

No.

5.) In terms of paying for this Google answer, can I have it billed
to my company?

Whatever credit card you used to sign on to Google Answers, that card
will be charged automatically when an answer is posted.

>>Finally, if the directory ends up not being what I am looking for,
are there any refunds?

The site that offers the directory does not have a refund policy
posted for membership (it offers refunds for its seminars under some
conditions, but is silent on the directory).

For refunds pertaining to the Google Answers fee, the refund policy
posted in their FAQs:

-----
What if I don't like my answer? Can I get a refund?

If you are not fully satisfied with your answer for whatever reason,
the first step is to request a clarification of your answer from the
original Researcher. If you are still dissatisfied after
clarification, you can request your question be re-posted once again.
If you receive a second answer and are still not satisfied, you may
apply for a full refund, less the non-refundable $0.50 listing fee,
using our refund request form. Finally, you can give the Researcher a
poor rating. If you want a refund, you'll be asked to explain why you
were unsatisfied with your answer, and this information, along with
the question and returned answer, will be posted on the Google Answers
website. Google grants full refunds for all reasonable requests for up
to 30 days after answers are posted.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Bryan --

A good starting list would be to get the Reps Index from ERA:
