I intend to continue renting for the foreseable future. In the
meantime I'm trying to get rid of a fair amount of debt which is
combined in the following ways: 1) auto loan @ 5.5% (recently
purchased), 2)credit card debt in an amount equal to the auto loan,
however the credit card debt has two APRs: 1/3 of it is at 2% and the
remaining balance is at 9% (all on the same card). I previously made a
not-so-wise decision to buy out my few thousand dollars of remaining
student loan debt with my credit card, but this means I have no tax
breaks at all. I know better now, but I've already made the mistake.

Someone told me I could consolidate all of this debt back into a
student loan or something like that in order to, a) get a lower
percentage on this debt - maybe something close to 4%, b) get a tax
break because - as with student loans - the interest on some
consolidated debt is tax deductable, and c)pay off my debt more
quickly.

Is this true? If so, please give me names and contact information of
specific companies that provide this service and will definitely be
able to offer me a low rate of 4%. Anything higher than 5% is not
worth my time. My credit is fair/good.
