Hello Vico88,

Agrotourism - Definition

?The concept of agrotourism is a direct expansion of ecotourism, which
encourages visitors to experience agricultural life at first hand.
Agrotourism is gathering strong support from small communities as
rural people have realised the benefits of sustainable development
brought about by similar forms of nature travel. Visitors have the
opportunity to work in the fields alongside real farmers and wade
knee-deep in the sea with fishermen hauling in their nets.?

What is agrotourism?

?Agrotourism is the form of tourism which capitalizes on rural culture
as a tourist attraction. It is similar to ecotourism except that its
primary appeal is not the natural landscape but a cultural landscape.
If the attractions on offer to tourists contribute to improving the
income of the regional population, agrotourism can promote regional
development. To ensure that it also helps to conserve diversity, the
rural population itself must have recognized agrobiodiversity as
valuable and worthy of protection.?

?Agrotourism, for example, is a form of rural tourism, in which
visitors have the opportunity to participate in the functioning of the
system that they visit, and thus become participants in the local
culture.?

of enjoyment, education, or active involvement in the activities of
the farm or operation.?

A definition of agrotourism was also given as follows:
"Accommodation and restoration services are identified as agrotourism
if they are provided by agriculture operators and the tourist activity
can be regarded as connection and complementary to the agriculture
activity"

?Agrotourism is an attractive form of sustainable tourism for rural
areas that aims at bringing the visitor in touch with the natural
environment, agricultural activities, local products, and a
community?s lifestyle, while at the same time allows investors to
develop a product still in its early stages.?

Another name for agrotourism is agritourism.

?A related term is farm-based tourism, in which visitors stay on a
working farm, even helping with farm chores; other names for this are
agrotourism and agri-tourism. That these are largely the jargon of the
heritage-based tourism trade is shown by the rarity of the related
forms in tourist?terms such as agrotourist or military tourist are
almost never seen.?

Agritourism

?Agritourism is a style of vacation in which hospitality is offered
on farms. This may include the opportunity to assist with farming
tasks during the visit. Agritourism is often practiced in wine growing
regions, as in France and Spain.

Dude ranches offer tourists the chance to work on cattle ranches and
sometimes include cattle drives.

Agritourism has often been proposed as a means to prop up a local
agricultural economy when local producers are no longer economically
competitive otherwise.

An example of an agritourism enterprise can be found in Lansing, New
York at Indian Chimney Farm, where alpaca, horses, goats, waterfalls,
gorges, gardens and more are available for farm tours. A small country
gift shop with fine alpaca apparel and other locally handcrafted gift
items helps to sustain the farm.?
