Question: What is the procedure of transferring the MS Outlook address book, the Outlook tasks, and the Internet Explorer Browser favorites list running under Windows 98 on a Dell computer with CD burner to an HP M1170N Media Photosmart desktop computer with a DVD-ROM drive running under MS Windows XP? What are the folders and files that must be exported to the new computer, and how is it done? |

OUTLOOK: 1. method You can choose in outlook which is exported from: File->Export->Contact List... or File->Export->Messages... and move this files to new computer and there: File->Import 2. method in 98 file: C:\windows\Aplicattion data\Microsoft\Address Book\YOUR_NAME.wab transfer in XP to: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\ EXPLORER FAVORITES: Favorites are in XP in folder: C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Favorites\ In 98: C:\WINDOWS\Favorites\ You just copy content of that folder. |

Thank you, clovek-ga, for your comment. It helped me to retrive the file Favorites, and the address book "mypc.wab" onto a CD from which I expect to import these into the new computer. But this still leaves me stranded without the Outlook tasks. |

This is the easiest and most simple way to do it. Follow the link below and download the Outlook Ad-in backup & install to your PC. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8b081f3a-b7d0-4b16-b8af-5a6322f4fd01&DisplayLang=en Once installation is done just open outlook and click "File" menu and select "Backup" then off you go. Please note that the "Backup" will not appear on your "File" menu unless the install the Backup Ad-in. For your favourites, just export it to a CSV file then import it back to your new PC. hello, You can try one of three solutions: 1. Best solution: search Microsoft.com with keywords, such as 'outlook backup', such as http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?st=b&na=88&View=en-us&qu=outlook+backup 2. The software 'ABF Outlook Backup' maybe can help you to solve this problem, please visit http://www.abfsoftware.com/products/OutlookBackup/. 3. If you do not want to choose any software, I think you can backup C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook (windows 98/me) or C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Outlook. -- ABF Outlook Backup is a backup and synchronization tool for MS Outlook. It allows you to backup and restore your messages, address book, settings, accounts, message rules, junk email lists, signatures, and even your Internet favorites. --- |
