I love the Mac OS "spring-loaded folders" -- when you drag a document onto a folder, it will pop open and you can keep popping open folders inside until you release the mouse button. Then it'll drop the file there and close all the windows that opened. Is there any program for Windows XP that does the same thing? | |

I'm not sure about drag&drop but if you want to navigate your folders like the start menu navigates programs here's how! Right click your windows toolbar, go to toolbars and click new toolbar. This will bring a window up to allow you to browse to wherever you want for the start of the list, for example choose my documents and then ok you will now find a link on your windows toolbar that will open up as you move your mouse over the folders (click on the >> section to begin) If you want to put a file in any of these folders just navigate to where you want and right click & open to open the folder completely or you can use the cut, copy & paste options without opening the folder. |

Initially when using Windows after years of Apple use I also missed this feature. There is, however an even easier solution in both operating systems now. 1) Select the file you want to copy to the new location, 2) Select Edit->Copy from the edit menu, 3) Navigate using the browser windows to the new location, 4) Select Edit->Paste from the edit menu. I find this to be a little easier than the initial problem. The issue I encountered when using spring-loaded folders exists when I accidentally select the incorrect folder and have to go back through them all again. This method allows you to select each folder at your convenience and use all the normal navigation features, while retaining the nominal function of modifying the directory the file is in. I hope this solves your issue, Dave |
