Hello. This may be a silly question, but I am very serious about it. A
while ago I took one sniff of white out just playing around. However,
from that one sniff I got a headache. Ever since then, I feel my
thinking isn't as clear as it used to be and I fear I may have lost
some intelligence. I need to know if it is possible to lose IQ from
taking only one sniff of white out.

Drugs affect people very differently depending on a huge range of factors.

The fact that you 'got a headache' indicates that even taking one
sniff was not a good idea.

As regards your intelligence, it should have benefited from the
experience because the lesson to be learned is never to experiment in
future.

Take Care & Good Luck!

My guess based on your story would be that your IQ dropped right
BEFORE you decide to try "white". If you don't get this joke... you
have an IQ prob ;)

No you did not get stupider by sniffing white out once. Actually one
sniff of white out made you smarter!

If one sniff of whiteout is capable of causing permanent brain damage
I doubt it could be sold. Not only for safety reasons, but they'd
have been put out of business due to the lawsuits. Imagine a class
action suit for 'anyone that has used white-out before'.

I think the nocebo effect is right on. It is normal to get a headache
after sniffing stuff like white-out, permanent markers, spray paint
etc. Sometimes you are even a bit light-headed for a moment as a
result of oxygen deprivation to the brain (someone with more knowledge
of this could elaborate...). After that, however I think the effects
are all psychosomatic.

If I lose my car keys one morning and convince myself I had bad luck
that day...bad things would most likely happen. The only way to break
this self-inflicted ?curse? is to realize that I am the cause and
change my outlook. If you want to raise your IQ again you must accept
that you?ve played a good trick on yourself and move on (easier said
than done). Do a crossword puzze, or a practice SAT or whatever you
like with this mentality and you should realize you haven?t lost
anything.
