I want to start a wiki and I want help on which software to select. Basically it?s going to be like wikipedia but focused in one specific topic. My ?special? needs are : 1. Flexible design (excuse me but I have a issue with the wikipedia design ? too serious.) 2. Ability to contain Google adsense. 3. Search engine optimization friendly. 4. Solid and stable. 5. Free 6. A reliable group or company ? I don?t want a software that will dissaper in one year? Also it needs to have the common features. Those are the questions I have in my mind feel free to add any comment. I am familiar with those sites: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?TopTenWikiEngines http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2004/11/04/which_wiki.html http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1401107,00.asp |

What is wrong with mediawiki? All you have to do is edit the skin and you can do whatever you want with it. You can put ads in it, and whatever else you like. just edit ./skins/Monobook.php |

I have been quite satisfied with MoinMoin (http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/), a free software Wiki written in Python. It is simple, because it depends only on Python. It has its own webserver, or you can run it inside Apache, either as a CGI or with mod_python. It has good versioning and multiuser abilities. Markup is reasonably wiki-ish (but you know there is really no standard), and with the new 1.5 version there is a WYSISWYG editor. To try it out, you can download and install the Desktop edition, which is ready to start as soon as you download it - no need to install anything else. Design is flexible 'enough' for me. I don't know about AdSense, though. |
