How many white-tailed deer exist in the US today (or in any year 2000
or later) and how many were hunted (preferably in that same year). I
could not find this info at the USFWS site. If you can give me the
reference too, I would be grateful!

Dear marthag-ga;

Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. You
will find the total US whitetail deer population and annual harvests
by adding the known totals of each state. You can find relatively
current estimates about how many reside in each state and how many are
taken annually per state through this source which claims to be the
most informative website for deer in the world. The information in
this database has been gathered from individual state and provincial
game departments and generally appears to be current through 2002, and
includes statistics for each of the 50 United States and Provinces of
Canada. :

I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you
have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise I welcome your rating
and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again
in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

Pity you didn't use the clarification process to your advantage. It
might have worked out better for both of us.

This was helpful, but not a direct answer to my question, and the
database I was directed to was actually variable in quality. After
about a half hour of work with the database I have a partial answer to
my question. More than I had before I asked.

Thank you.
