What is the average number of telephone minutes used per month,
inbound and outbound, per worker in a US business? I am trying to get
some research on the number of minutes used by corporate phone users
in the United States on a per person basis for desk phone usage. Not
interested in cell phone or home usage. Actual statistics and sources
where I can review statistics will be helpful.

Managing Personal Information and Knowledge

...The results of the survey revealed that individuals are spending
more time than ever managing personal information and are using
multiple devices. The survey revealed that the average user spends
three hours and 14 minutes each day using technologies to process
work-related information?more than 40 percent of an eight-hour work
day. The average user also devoted 1.58 hours each day to e-mail,
spent 47 minutes on the telephone and voice mail, received 44 e-mails
daily, sent 17 e-mails on average, and had more than three e-mail
accounts...

which indicates that telephone usage (on average) is a fairly modest
47 minutes, especially when compared with email.

In the course of a 22-day work month, that would be 17 hours and 12
minutes a month of telephone usage.

Does that information meet your needs?

If this site doesn't have some statistics for you I dont know who will....
http://www.forrester.com
Also if you contact them and ask for the first report as a sample,
they will just send it to you in an email.

You could also try this site: http://infousa.com/

I have been looking for the exact same information. After speaking
with some telecom traffic engineers I have found the following:

Average Number of Outboud Minutes is between 800 and 1,000
The Split between local and LD is 3:1 - 66%Local, 33%LD

Typically the ratio of Outboud to Inbound Minutes is 3:1 there fore
the Inbound Minutes should be between 266 and 666.

please let me know if you find any information

Well, this is valuable information but doesn't provide the details I
am looking for on the telephone component. It does tell me the total
minutes on average but I need details on how the total minutes breaks
down. How many inbound minutes? How many outbound minutes, etc.?

I have asked the same quesion regarding average inbound vs outbound
minutes of use. first glance you would think it would have to be
50/50, but that would be wrong. The average I have heard is that its
70/30 - outbound to inbound.

Please let me know if you are able to find any documented information
