I need simple schematic and assembly instructions for a small low
energy use photosensor switch I can instal near the led marker light
of my driveway entrance and the solar charged battery pack to cut the
power consumption from the batery by the LED during the day to
hopefully extend the night time light. The LED is powered by two 1.5
volts rechargeble "D" batteries recharged by a small sollar panel
which is just enough to run the led for the night.

A more elegant solution would be to use the solar cell itself as the
photo sensor. In other words, the circuit would detect when the solar
cell is providing charging current to the battery, and disengage the
LED under that condition. The modification would depend on the
circuit of your existing solar light.

Here's a circuit that would do what I described. The 12v source &
100k represent the solar cell during the day. This charges the 3v
battery but turns off the transistor switch. At night, the 12v source
drops to 0V and turns on the switch.
