I have received a total sum of around $55,000 USD. Currently I'm
looking for a way to invest this money into something that will bring
me a monthly income. One thing I though of was to rent out a condo. If
I were to purchase a condo in a popular tourist destination that is
under $100,000, and then rent it out what sort of return could I
usually expect? Do you have any better options for investing that
money?

Return on any investment would be proportionate to risks and efforts
built into the investment. Your return is safest in Bank or Large
Company deposits and can be quite risky in speculation in shares or
commodities.

Since you plan to have a hassle free income, you can consider a
balanced split in shares (though mutual funds), Bank Deposits, and
direct purchase of shares.
